Chapter 2: Attitude is Everything

So I was looking for an old project to give to my brother as a reference when I came upon the "Success for Teens" book we got in one of our early sessions. I remembered that I had posted on the blog about it before but soon got busy and didn't really think about it too much. I figured people would be all over the blog and was surprised when I came to check out that it hasn't exactly been the hottest place for discussion. Well that's going to change.

Attitude is a powerful thing, and can mean the difference between success and failure, happiness and sadness, completion and procrastination. What attitudes have you held that you want to change in the new year? How does that affect the way you see yourself and the world?

I am usually so caught up in scheduling extra curricular activities, to make the perfect college application, that I make excuses. I say things like "I went to an afterschool club, worked out, grabbed dinner in the car, and then had play practice; I'm just going to go to sleep." I then have to rush to slap my homework together in the morning, and don't even mention studying. When confronted, I say things like "Well we all know it'll be my extra curriculars - not my grades - that get me into college" and brush it off like nothing. It is not nothing! It's a serious concern that I need to turn around.

Over this semester, and on into the next school year, I plan to make academics a more important part of my life. If I really can't handle my extra curricular activities and my classes then I need to drop something; and it is not going to be homework. I am going to get more serious about homework, and allocate time for studying, especially for my AP classes. My hope for the new year is that it will bring a fresh attitude to us all.
